I pitched one packet of this along with one "smack-pack" of Wyeast American ale yeast as I ended up at 1.092 starting gravity. (!!!) Reading the white labs label, it instructed to use THREE of these packets for any starting gravity over 1.065. Do the math on that...yeast should not cost as much as the fermentables in a batch of homebrew! Yes, that was hyperbole, but the point is made.
Anyway, those two packets I pitched have got the fermentation lock bubbling almost non-stop for two days now. The fermentation room smells amazing, too.
I think I'm going to be a big fan of this yeast, but only if I harvest it to bring the cost down.
This was my first time ordering live yeast, so I was a bit worried about shipping. But, credit to Homebrew Supply, the San Diego Super arrived on ice and still the ice pack was still frozen. Fermentation started within 18 hours or so of pitching the yeast. Brew's in the secondary now and it tastes delicious. I've used the WLP090 before and the final product always ends up really well balanced.
