Our fall seasonal pumpkin porter starts with a great robust porter base, with a rich malt flavor and restrained roastiness that melds well with the traditional pumpkin spices and flavors of the season. With hints of coffee and chocolate, this pumpkin porter will be a favorite of yours to celebrate fall each year.
Since pumpkin in itself is relatively bland, the spices provide much of the “pumpkin flavor” associated with pumpkin ales. If you desire to incorporate actual pumpkin into the recipe, we suggest using 1 medium pie pumpkin or 1-2 30 ounce cans of pumpkin (pumpkin only, NOT pumpkin pie filling).
If you're using fresh pumpkin, you'll need to prepare it: Cut the pumpkin in half and remove the seeds. Bake at 350ºF for an hour, or until soft and fully cooked through. Cool and peel the cooked pumpkin, and add to your mash. Since pumpkin is very heavy, we suggest using 1/2 pound of rice hulls in the mash, or mashing the pumpkin in a bag with the main mash to facilitate lautering and avoiding a stuck mash or sparge.
We suggest only using 1 teaspoon of the pumpkin pie spice in the boil as it can be strong; a little goes a long way. If you desire more spice after fermentation, another teaspoon or so of spice can be added to the priming solution in the bottling bucket.
All orders containing Liquid Yeast will be shipped with a complimentary ice pack to ensure safe shipping!

Spiced Pumpkin Porter
This is my second batch being made of this recipe. The first time was made in the summer and supposed to last through the holidays....well that didn't happen. Tasted way too good to NOT take care of it early. Now making a second batch this month that may or may not make it through Christmas! If you like Pumpkin beers, this one is great!!

Spiced Pumkin Porter
This kit came with massive grain bill, over 2 lbs in an extract kit!? The brew day went off without a hitch, good color and aromas. Awesome kit! Beginners will need some guidance in addition to the instructions provided for the brew schedule.
