One of the best and brightest new hop varieties to come along in ages is the strain formerly called, “HBC 369”. Renamed Mosaic in 2012 when it was released for sale, this hop is aptly named due to the mosaic of flavor in each sip of beer. Rich in flavors and aromas of mango, citrus, and even blueberry, this IPA provides hop notes that you will have to experience to believe. Balanced with malt flavor, the bitterness is firm, but not too intense, bringing the aroma hops to the forefront. Light in color, this flavorful IPA will be perfect for your summer barbecues and ball games with friends. Make sure you drink this from an IPA glass, as to get the full aromatic experience from this fruity hop.

India Pale Ale came into the brewing scene as a measure in practicality actually. In the 1700s, sailers had trouble getting their beers to India due to the long voyage around the Cape of Good Hope. Brewers would add larger additions of hops, and increase the alcohol content, and thus, the beers could survive the voyage in a time before refrigeration and avoid being flat and sour upon arrival.

Looking forward to brewing the all grain version of this. I previously brewed the extract version. If you're into hop-forward IPAs with strong citrus notes, you'll love this. My first reaction was that the grapefruit notes were too strong for me. But it quickly grew into one of my favorites (I rate it 4.5 out of 5 stars). My wife and daughter are glad I've ordered this, as they really liked the brew.
As described, the Mosaic hops provide for a citrus flavor balanced by tropical fruit and blueberry notes. The nose foreshadows the taste, and the taste lingers on the palate. An excellent IPA for those who don't typically love IPAs or for those who are looking for something new in an IPA flavor profile with less bitterness than a standard multi-hop IPA. I plan on ordering and brewing this again.
