<p>India Pale Ale beers (most commonly called simply "IPA") were actually the result of a practical solution to the problem that 18th century sailors were having when transporting their beers into India. They had a long voyage in which they would travel around the Cape of Good Hope to India, and during their travels, the beers would arrive with a flat, sour taste. To overcome this in a time before refrigeration, brewers begin utilizing larger addition of hops and increasing the alcohol content, which would help their beers survive the voyage.</p>
